Paulo Iago set to join Sporting Lisbon
Numerous media outlets have reported that 17-year old Real Madrid midfielder Paulo Iago is on the verge of leaving the club to join Sporting Lisbon in Portugal. Reports of his unrest in the capital of Spain are nothing new, with the Spanish youth international seemingly concerned about his first team chances for months now. Paulo had been at the club since he was 8 years old, and had worked his way up to the under-19s despite his younger than typical age. This means that Real Madrid Castilla have lost a decent option in midfield ahead of next season – but on the whole this is not a significant loss for the club. The media may try to paint a different picture, but performances in La Fábrica have been mixed to say the least, leaving many to believe the step up to Castilla was a leap to great in the first place. Sporting Lisbon have a B team themselves, which is Iago’s likely destination. Although they are not as good as Castilla – the pathway into the first team is an awful lot simpler, as you can imagine. Best of luck to Paulo Iago!
Paulo Iago renewed his contract last season for two years until 2025, the maximum allowed for young players. Everyone convinced him to stay at Real Madrid despite his doubts but he considers that Arbeloa stopped trusting him.
