Toni Kroos, Antonio Rudiger give it their all in Germany’s 1-1 draw with Switzerland

Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos and Antonio Rudiger were involved in Germany’s 1-1 draw with Switzerland, where the hosts left it till the death to equalize — proper Real Madrid style — with Niclas Fulkrug securing them the crucial point.

Toni Kroos was not quite at his “best”, but he still was Germany’s best player, as he controlled the tempo of the game for almost the entirety of the match. His influence increased in the last 10-15 minutes of the game, and he kept getting better and better. Kroos finished the game with a game-high 127 touches, 106 passes with 92.5% accuracy, four key passes, two tackles, two interceptions and a clearance. Great game for anyone, a routine game for Kroos — after a slow first half.

Antonio Rudiger held it down at the back, having a slow start to the game at first but, just like Kroos, growing into the game as it went on. He was involved in a number of important interventions that stopped Switzerland from scoring more, as he finished the game with three tackles and an interception. In possession, Rudiger was the same as usual, with the second-most passes (86) and touches (95) on the pitch.

This result meant that Germany progressed to the knockout stages as group winners and will face the runners-up of Group C in the round of 16 of the competition.
