Ancelotti on Mbappe’s position: “I see him playing upfront”

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti visited John Obi-Mikel’s podcast and talked about Kylian Mbappe’s future position on the field while also discussing his plans for the team’s offense.

”I see him play in front and the attack is quite wide. The pitch is 68 metres. We have to cover the 68 meters with the players in front. It can be Vinicius [playing on the left] because when I’m asked where he played last season it is difficult to say because he didn’t play as a left-winger and the same with Rodrygo. He starts on the right but sometimes shifts to the middle of the left,” said Ancelotti when Obi-Mikel told him that Mbappe likes to play on the left side of the attacking line.

“The key to a successful attack is player mobility. Sometimes, he’ll play on the left, other times in the middle,” he added.

It’s quite clear that Ancelotti will let the attackers play with freedom so that they have room and space to operate. Bellingham, Vinicius and Mbappe will likely need some time to get used to playing together, but on paper it will certainly be a great fit.
