About the Competition

The National Judgment Writing Competition, 2025, is designed to cultivate the craft of judicial writing by placing students in the role of a judge. Participants analyse a factual matrix, apply the law with clarity and precision, and deliver a well reasoned, self-contained judgment.

The competition blends creative lawyering with innovative judging: students must frame issues, evaluate rival contentions, sift admissible facts and authorities, and reach a principled outcome that demonstrates both legal rigour and judicial temperament.

At its core, the competition aims to cultivate a judicious mind, promote adherence to the rule of law, and foster clear and accessible reasoning. By simulating real-world adjudication, it strengthens participants’ capacity to interpret statutes and precedents, write in a neutral and authoritative voice, and craft an operative order that meets the ends of justice.

Theme

The theme of the 1st National Judgement Writing Competition, 2025 is Contract Law.

Eligibility

• Open to students currently pursuing a 3-Year LL.B. or 5-Year Integrated LL.B. program at any recognised institution in India.
• Entries may be individual or in teams of two (co-authorship). Only one submission per entry is permitted.
• There is no cap on the number of entries from any one institution.

Fee

• Team of 2: ₹500 per team
• Individual Participation: ₹350 per team

Prizes

• Winner, (Cash Prize of Rs. 5,000/-)
• 1st Runner-Up (Cash Prize of Rs. 3,000/-)
• Certificate of Merit shall be given to the Top 2 teams.
• Certificate of Participation shall be given to all Participants.
