Nestle to reinstate recipe for popular chocolate treat after ‘disgusting’ change blasted

In an effort to appease its devoted fanbase after receiving backlash, Nestle has issued an apology about a slight recipe change that caused chaos online.

The Swiss food titan is renowned for its diverse selection of sweet treats – from the classic KitKat to the opulent After Eights.

However, its beloved Nesquik milkshake mix have been the target of criticism, after holding a cherished place in people’s hearts for decades.

Offered in chocolate, strawberry, and banana varieties, the powdered beverages were a household essential for many who came of age in the 1990s.

However, the formula for the beloved milkshakes was recently modified, swapping out maltodextrin (an additive commonly used to enhance consistency, texture, and shelf life of certain foods) with rice flour.

A wave of unhappy consumers descended upon X (formerly Twitter) to voice their disapproval of the new recipe, with many complaining that the powder wouldn’t dissolve properly in milk.

“Been drinking Nesquik strawberry powder for years, but the new recipe with rice flour is nasty,” one customer lashed out.

“Please change it back again. [I’m] not buying it again until you do.”

Another person shared: “The new recipe for banana Nesquik is utterly disgusting with a vile sludge left at the bottom of the glass. Your quality control has messed up big time here.”

Meanwhile a third user commented: “Whatever you have done to the strawberry powder recipe, please change it back.

“I opened a new tub yesterday and it tastes weird and gets really thick at the bottom… It’s never been like this.”

According to a report in The Grocer, Nestlé has pledged to revert to the original recipe, indicating it should be available in stores by next month.

A company representative said: “Our aim is always to have the best possible recipe on the market.

“We sometimes make changes that aim to improve on existing recipes. On this occasion, the change has not been popular with consumers – and we have listened to their feedback.”
