About the Organiser

Sri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal is a Public Charitable Trust in India. This Trust operates various schools, colleges and educational institutions across India. SVKM’s Pravin Gandhi College of Law (PGCL) is in Vile Parle, Mumbai. PGCL provides various courses, including B.L.S LL.B Course (5 Years), L.L.M. and PG Diploma courses.

About the Event

The Centre for Consumer Advocacy at PGCL is celebrating International Consumer Week from 9th – 15th March 2024. A key part of these celebrations is the 3rd edition of the National Legal Opinion Drafting Competition.

About Centre for Consumer Advocacy

The Centre for Consumer Advocacy was set up in September 2016 to research, collaborate, and create awareness about consumer rights, consumer grievances, and solutions. In line with this, the CCA has carried out research assignments on various consumer issues in association with the Mumbai Grahak Panchayat, Consumer Association of India, Consumer Guidance Society of India, etc.

Eligibility

Participation is restricted to students currently pursuing their law degree. Law school’s/colleges recognized by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate in the 3rd National Legal Opinion Drafting Competition, 2024.

Team Composition

A team may compromise of a minimum number of 2 participants and a maximum number 3 participants from each institution.

Format Of the Submission

  • The language for the competition will be strictly English.
  • The font used must be Times New Roman, size 12, line spacing 1.5, with one inch margin on each side.
  • The font of footnotes must be Times New Roman, size 10, single line spacing.
  • Page numbers must be given at the bottom of the page.
  • The length of the opinion should not exceed 2500 words.
  • The cover page of the submission should include the name of the Authors, with the Authors’ designation (i.e., year of study) and the name of the Institution.

General Rules

  • The Participants must send the soft copy of the Legal Opinion in pdf form by 12 March 2024 by 11:59 PM to [email protected].
  • The Subject Line should be: “Submission- Legal Opinion Drafting Competition- (Name of Participant 1)- (Name of Participant 2).”
  • Results will be declared on 15th March 2024 at the Valedictory Ceremony of the Consumer Week.
  • All participants will receive a participation certificate. Entries sent after the deadline shall be disqualified.
  • Any entry found to be plagiarised will be disqualified.

Judging Criteria

Each Opinion shall be evaluated out of 100 points by an evaluator. The criteria for evaluation are as follows:

  • Knowledge of Law and Facts- 25 Points
  • Proper and Articulate Analysis- 25 Points
  • Extent and Use of Research- 20 Points
  • Clarity and Organization- 20 Points
  • Grammar and Style- 10 Points

Prizes

  • The Best Team – Cash Prize of Rs. 2,000/- and a Certificate of Merit.
  • The Runner-Up Team – Cash Prize of Rs. 1500/- and a Certificate of Merit.
  • The Second Runner Up Team – Cash Prize of Rs. 1000/- and a Certificate of Merit.

Important Dates

  • The last date to register for the competition is 10th March 2024.
  • Date of Submission of Legal Opinion: 12th March 2024 by 11:59 PM.
  • Results to be declared on 15th March 2024.
